We enjoyed a beautiful time last week with lots of singing and community bonding. The weather was perfect for our powhiri to welcome new students, whānau and staff to Rewa Rewa School. We were so proud of all of our students as they stepped up to learn the tikanga and waiata for this occasion. Our huge thanks to everyone who provided kai (food) for this occasion, helped in the kitchen or attended on the day. A very special mention to Whaea Danielle for training us so well and to Persia, Zion, Brooklyn, Ian Svela and Kiera King for stepping up to the challenge of leading the karanga and speeches.
Our school choir is also starting to shine. Under the tutelage of Kiera King, during last week’s practice a neighbour popped over from her gardening to say how beautiful they sounded. They will be singing at this afternoon’s assembly (2.15pm in the Hall), and parents are more than welcome to attend.
School Volunteers – Helpers Needed
We are desperately short of Road Patrol helpers for term 2. This duty just takes 15 minutes of your time, but is SO appreciated by the school. If you can help out, even just for 1 term, we would love to have you onboard. Please email ian.svela@rewarewa.school.nz ASAP, if you can help. Thank you.
If you have experience in completing grant applications, we have 2 projects we would like to undertake, but are unable to do so without grant funding – turf for the centre of our Bike & Athletics Track and extending our solar power generation. Please email office@rewarewa.school.nz if you are able to help.
If you know of anyone getting rid of top soil (not clean fill), we need a few more truckloads on the top field – please email office@rewarewa.school.nz with details.
LOST PROPERTY is growing – if you’d like to take responsibility for putting this outside each fortnight please email office@rewarewa.school.nz to tell us.
Communication Between Home & School
Each term our teachers put a lot of time and care into sending home newsletters to share the learning for the term with our whānau. In week 2 each term, parents & caregivers are informed about the curriculum topics for the term ahead and then in week 8 we share stories and photos about learning with you. Please make time to read these carefully and talk with your child about what they are working on.
Environmental Work Around Our school
Lots of different groups are helping to make a noticeable difference in our school. Whether it be those who are helping in the gardens, the student Gardening Club with Lynnda Bouzaid, Yr 6 Enviro Group, spraying weeds and planting trees. We are always looking for more helpers, as our grounds are very large. If you can share some time, we would love to hear from you.
A local retiree has just built some beautiful planter boxes for the deck at the senior end of our classrooms. Hau class is looking forward to choosing plants for these and looking after them. Our huge thanks to Kiera King for organising this.
