Student Participation in Local Events
Over the last few weeks over 90 students from our school have participated in cross country at Grenada North or Amesbury, as well as the inaugural tabloid sports day for senior students held at NIS. These events are an opportunity for our students to meet and play with/against students from other primary schools in Newlands, as well as the wider Wellington region. Something we are so proud of was the way in which our children not only participated, but how they helped each other, as well as students from other schools. Congratulations to all participants, with special mention to Curtis, who has gained a place at the Regional Cross Country event to be held soon. Our huge thanks to Avi Jayasekara, Ian Svela and the many parents who helped with transport and washing school sports shirts. This weekend’s job – clean the muddy imprints still on the back seats of my car!
3-Way Conference Feedback
The turnout for this term’s 3-Way Conference meetings with parents and students was amazing! Thank you for making the time to meet with your child’s teacher, as the home & school partnership is one of THE most important things that you can do to help your child thrive as a learner.
As always, we are interested in gaining feedback from our parents so that we can continue to deliver quality, timely information about your child. This week expect a Survey Monkey to arrive in your inbox, asking for your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this and for those who would like to go into the draw to win a $30 NW voucher, please include your contact details.
Bike & Athletics Track – Green Light!
Exciting news – all going well, the Bike Track and top field drainage work is due to begin 12 June. We are hopeful that the weather will allow completion within 5 weeks. Please do not enter the top field site during this time as there will be heavy machinery in action. At the same time, we are expecting the steps connecting the lower school site to the top field will also be upgraded. This will mean that there will be construction materials and machinery around the bottom court area that we need to be aware of too. We think that the inconvenience will be worth it in the end!
King’s Birthday Public Holiday
Remember that there is a public holiday next week on Monday 5 June – King’s Holiday – and school will be closed.
Driver Behaviour
We are receiving phone calls from neighbours with complaints about our parent drivers parking on grass verges and driving dangerously. They are taking photos and passing these onto the police. Please do not pick up children from the staff carpark or driveway between 8-9am and 2.30-3.30pm – this is a NO-GO ZONE for student pedestrians at all times!
