Term 2 Teaching and Learning
The teaching team has been working behind the scenes preparing for Term 2, to ensure that our students have a wide range of quality learning experiences, such as trips out of school, an evening school performance to celebrate Matariki, gymnastics, science experiments (Navigation) and cross country running are just a few of the exciting programmes to come. Please read your child’s class newsletters next term to keep in touch with the curriculum areas being covered and if you can offer any expertise – we’d love to hear from you!
Teacher Only Day (TOD) Reminder
In Week 1 of Term 2, school will be closed on Monday 24 April so that our teachers can become upskilled with changes to teaching programmes stemming from the refreshed curriculum. Our team began this journey last year with Kura Ahurea and the new NZ Histories Curriculum. Our TOD will focus on looking deeper into how these changes impact literacy and maths. For parents, the main changes will be the gradual removal of Curriculum Levels as they are replaced with Progress Outcomes. To start preparing you for these changes, in term 2 we will be sharing your child’s Progress Outcomes in maths, reading and writing at their mid-year 3-way Conference (Parent/Teacher/Child).
Community Fire Performance
Thanks to Mrs Pine, all of our students and their teachers were able to experience how to work with fire safely, whilst performing using fire-sticks. It was great to see so many families at the evening performance on the top field. We managed a great evening weather-wise, with many enjoying a BYO picnic, Yr 6 Sausage Sizzle, Student Leader Juicie Tubes and buying our famous “Worm Wee” for the garden! All profits go towards Yr 6 Camp, our Bike & Athletics Track and the Garden Club, to purchase plants and garden tools.
Student Leaders
Our student leaders have been organising Juicie Tube sales this term – we are nearly ready to purchase our second bike for the new track. To celebrate a great term, Student Leaders have voted to hold a Wheels Day on the last Wednesday of term next week – fliers have been sent home already.
Non-Perishable Food Donations Welcome
We would welcome donations of non-perishable food for students who need some assistance with lunch or morning tea from time to time. There is no freezer space whilst we sell Juicies, but packet items would be most apprciated, eg. cup noodles, muesli bars etc.
School Gardens
We would love to hear from those of you who have 1-2 hours to spare to help to weed our gardens. The Garden Club is also selling high quality Worm Wee, to fertilise your garden – just $5 a 2L bottle (makes up to 10 litres), 8.30-9am every Wednesday outside the Staffroom.
