School Communication Term 4, Week 1 2020

Monday 12 October 2020

Kia ora, welcome back everybody – we hope all of our tamariki are feeling refreshed and ready to go. This communication is to inform you about things that you might need to know in the next week or so, ahead of the first school newsletter due to be published in week 3. Please remember that ALL STUDENTS must wear wide brimmed sunhats at school this term.

SCHOOL NEWSLETTERS

This term newsletters will be sent out on a 3-weekly cycle: Wednesday 28 October; 18 November and 9 December.

IMPORTANT DATES AHEAD

Please read these in the Upcoming Events section of each newsletter.

New dates that you may not be aware of yet include:

  • Whole school trip in week 9, Thursday 10 December (we will need a lot of parent help on this day)
  • A 2021 Yr 5 & 6 Camp parent meeting is being held NEXT WEEK 6pm, Thursday 22nd October 2020 for all parents of students who are currently in year 4 and year 5. Charlotte Hills has emailed these parents with an initial letter. If you have not received a letter and should have, please email office@rewarewa.school.nz
  • Māori whanau hui – an email will be sent out soon about setting up a date for this
  • A school show from the Playhouse group will be performed this week – 2pm, Tuesday 13 October
  • ASB will be teaching financial literacy in each of our classrooms this Thursday 15 October

Changed dates:

  • Due to the unavailability of the hall this term we have postponed badminton and handball lessons to term 1, 2021
  • EasySwim lessons will start Monday 23 November and run each Monday through to Thursday, as well as in the following week. We are also trying to get EasySwim to commit to opening the pool in the weekends for families to use – watch this space.

FREE EQUIPMENT

We have some furniture that we no longer have any use for by the storage container at the end of the classroom block. Please help yourselves to these items – anything that remains by this Friday will be going to the rubbish tip. If you need to drive a vehicle onsite to collect any large items, please come to the Office FIRST so that we can escort your vehicle onsite safely – this precaution is in place from 8am till 6pm each day, as we have children at After School Care who will still be using the school quad area.

PROPERTY DEVELOPMENTS

Fences: work has begun to erect fencing around the school – please stay away from this work and the vehicles onsite. Expected completion date is week 2 or 3.

Sensory Room and Junior Outdoor Play area: the last classroom in the block, library, junior toilets and PE shed are out of bounds at all times until work is complete. This will hopefully be by week 7. We had a bit of excitement on the last day of the holidays – the fire alarms went off and the local brigade came to visit!  Hopefully building dust and vapours will not set them off again.

Shade Sails: 3 new shade sails have been installed, the 4th one will hopefully join the set in the next week or so.

Gorse and Grass: has been cut on all the banks around the school. If you or your child suffers from hay fever, please ensure that appropriate medications are taken before arrival at school!!

CLASSROOM CHANGES for Term 4

Whilst Whero class is having their area upgraded, some students / teachers will be operating from the hall, which the Whero teaching team has transformed into a wonderful classroom space during the holidays! After today, your child will know which class area to arrive at each morning. In the afternoons, all of the junior team will be dismissed from the main block, as per usual. If you have any concerns or for further information, please see Avi, Helen or Guadalupe.

CLASSROOM ORGANISATION FOR 2021

After the Board of Trustees has met in week 5 (Tuesday 10 November), it is their intention to let our community know how each year level and the teaching team will be organised in 2021. There are some exciting plans afoot and we can’t wait to share these with you.
